The Tire Barn

Old Tire Barn At the first official meeting of the Hardeman County Commission, Solid Waste Director, Gene Mills, asked for and received permission to use the old "tire barn", located at the Hardeman County Landfill, for additional Shelter space for the confiscated animals.

It is the desire of this department to convert the structure into a practical and comfortable area, which will not only house dogs but also serve as an area in which the public can readily view the animals for adoptive purposes. Once completed, the Shelter will be open to the public several days a week and manned by volunteers who are dedicated to saving as many as dogs as possible from the fate of euthanasia. The project is estimated to cost $30,000 with CCA supplying the manpower. The new facility will be used in addition to the existing building, which consists of six partially covered chain link pens. The existing facility, which is in the same general area, will be used as a holding area for those dogs that cannot be in a community environment.

Animal Shelter Progress!

The area around the building site has been cleaned and prepared for construction and actual construction has begun. Excavation for the slab foundation is complete. Forms and utilities have been layed and most of the concrete has been poured and smoothed!

If you wish to donate your services or tangible materials used in the construction of this facility, please call Solid Waste Director, Gene Mills, at 731-658-2884 or Keith Spencer, Animal Control Officer.

Fund raising projects are now being planned and the enthusiastic response from the public is most encouraging. In addition to these events, it is hoped that contributions from individuals and businesses, monetary, supplies, and services, will make this project a reality in 2007!
