If your pet has been lost
there are a number of things that you should do immediately:
  • Call your Animal Control office at 731-658-2884 and give them a description of your animal and the location where it was last seen.
  • Call your local Veterinarian’s office at 731-658-3555 and so the same.
  • Call Sherri Chance, who works very closely with the shelter dogs and give her the information (901-299-0024).
  • Call the Bolivar Bulletin at 731-658-3691. This same information will, upon notification, be printed in the Hardeman County Shopper at no charge.
  • Post signs in the vicinity where your pet was last seen, with a description of your pet and your phone number.
If you find a dog, follow the same steps that you would if you had lost yours. Some small child or elderly person could be grieving over the loss. Sometimes dogs slip away from even the most conscientious pet owners. We who work with Animal Control experience such satisfaction in helping to reunite a responsible pet owner with their lost pet.

Remember that it is so important to the safety of your pet to have it wear a collar with an identification tag, as well as a rabies tag at all times. Even then, collars and tags can become lost and unless you follow the above steps there is a good possibility that your animal, if picked up, will be euthanized in three days if there is no identification.

The shelter is very small and space is limited. There is such an abundance of stray, dumped and unwanted dogs in the County that the runs fill up very quickly.

Be responsible: keep your dog in the house; in a fenced yard or pen; and when walking, keep your dog on a leash. It is the law!
